Out-of-Hospital Emergency Care (OHEC)

AFEM’s out of hospital emergency care (OHEC) Committee is comprised of African and international physicians with expertise in developing and expanding pre-hospital emergency care systems. Through extensive consensus processes, the committee has developed strategic guidance around topics such as emergency medical dispatch and pre-hospital provider training. OHEC has identified 6 priority areas for out-of-hospital emergency care system development in Africa: clinical care, communication, public access, education, governance, and transportation.

The committee plans to develop OHEC “development toolkits” (i.e. a practical repository of resource documents, frameworks, links to technical experts, etc.) around each of the 6 priority areas. All 6 toolkits will be relevant to both tier 1 (community-based) and tier 2 (professionally-rendered) systems.
